Bereaved parents can now find solace together

Bereaved parents can now find solace together after losing a child.

The Compassionate Friends of Canada is a non-profit, peer support organization, offering friendship, understanding, and grief education for families who are grieving the death of a child at any age, from any cause.

The New Brunswick Chapter has locations in Fredericton and Saint John, but will now have a location in Moncton starting Monday, September 16.

Facilitator Lisa Cormier, who lost her son Ryan in an accident in 2022, said the group was started by three parents who wanted a safe space to connect with others.

“It’s also an opportunity to share whatever you are feeling, experiencing, or to share anything you would like about your child who had passed and memories that you have,” said Cormier.

Cormier said meetings will be held every third Monday from 7 to 9 p.m., at 1 Cedarwood Avenue in Pinetree Village.

The meetings will cover a wide array of topics; providing access to various community resources, and a chance to be in a nonjudgmental, compassionate, and safe environment where they choose whether or not to share.

Additionally, everyone is encouraged to offer suggestions for improving the meetings and to voice any concerns, all of which will be treated with the utmost seriousness.

Cormier also stated anything someone share’s will be confidential and remain within the group
