Beal University launches nursing program at Sackville Memorial Hospital

Beal University has officially unveiled its Bachelor of Science in nursing program at Horizon’s Sackville Memorial Hospital.

“This Grand Opening marks a significant milestone in our mission to educate nurses who will provide excellent health care,” Holly McKnight, President of Beal University Canada said.

The accelerated program starts with 12 months of online study, followed by a mix of in-person and online nursing courses in Sackville. Clinical placements are conducted at Horizon and/or Vitalité facilities.

The program has six start dates a year and can be completed in two and a half years, with the first group of students set to graduate this August.

Margaret Melanson, Horizon President and CEO, explained the program’s role in addressing the community’s growing need for skilled nurses.

“Having access to high-quality education locally helps us build a strong foundation for our health care system,” Melanson said.

Health Minister John Dornan said they are eager to see an increase in the number of healthcare professionals in the province.

He added that there are 10 community care clinics planned to begin operations in 2025, including Sackville to be one of them.
