Bathurst fire forces dozens from their homes

Dozens of homes had to be evacuated after a massive fire broke out at a business in Bathurst over the weekend.

Firefighters from several departments were called to Eddy Group on Saint Anne Street on Saturday evening.

Photos on social media showed large flames and heavy smoke coming from the business, which sells plumbing, HVAC, and electrical supplies.

An air quality advisory was also issued for part of the city because of the smoke.

Officials said no injuries were reported as a result of the fire, which crews battled into Sunday.

Eddy Group expressed its gratitude to first responders in a Facebook post on Sunday evening.

The company, which has been in the community for more than 100 years, said it plans to rebuild.
