Baseball Players Set To Play Moncton In The 2015 Canada Cuba Goodwill Tour

The Cuba-Goodwill tour comes to Moncton tonight.

Mike Mercier says they have been supporting these Cuban youths and teams for four years by visiting and raising money and donating equipment. Around $100, 000 has been raised for the cause.

There are 25 Cubans overall, including 12 players, coaches and interpreters.

He says the game tonight is free, with opening ceremonies at 6:30, and the game starting at 7.

He says, “We’re hoping that the community just comes and supports them so we can make it a wow factor for the Cubans. We’re also hoping the game runs a little late, and we’re able to turn on the lights. The Cubans don’t have lights on their fields at home.”

Mercier says the Cuban team are outfitted with full uniforms and have their own equipment that for the most part has been donated either new or used by the Atlantic Canadian teams.

This is the first time the Cuban team has visited Moncton. Over the past four years, teams from Atlantic Canada have visited Cuba, and have played there.
