Warmer weather creates the urge for some to light backyard fires.
You’re not doing anything wrong, as long as your follow the rules in the Moncton’s city by-law.
They include, keeping your fire in an enclosure, keeping it small, near a water source, and a safe distance away from combustible material and trees.
Moncton Fire Platoon Chief Brian Gaudet says it’s not uncommon to see a spike in calls for backyard fires at this time of year.
Gaudet says many of the calls they receive are because residents see smoke, or because they’re unsure whether or not the fire burning is meeting the safety elements of the city by-law.
He stresses that if you do spot what could be an unsafe fire, call the fire department immediately.
