Natural gas prices may be low right now but the Atlantic Chamber of Commerce believes the time is right for the provincial government to lift its moratorium on hydraulic fracturing.
Industry experts have warned the local supply is declining and that means natural gas must be transported over longer distances leading to higher costs.
Chamber CEO Valerie Roy says fracking had been taking place for years in the Sussex area.
“In New Brunswick, it has been operating as a safe industry. They have been certainly following all of the rules that the government has put into place,” says Roy.
Corridor Resources was recently forced to delay a $70-million investment in the province over three years.
In May, the Gallant government said the shale gas industry had not met all of the conditions necessary to lift the moratorium.
