Anglophone School Districts in the province are making changes to the way they will handle Professional development days.
In the past, students have had full days off for PD days.
Superintendent for Anglophone East Gregg Ingersoll says there will now a combination of full and half days, “We’re still having those days for Parent Teacher Interviews. The calendar includes four full PD days, and five half days, where students will be going home at noon. By doing it this way, it allows students to be in school more often. Instead of being at home for the full days, they’ll at least be at school for half of the day.”
Ingersoll adds this new system will also mean students won’t miss as many of the important subjects, “They’ll get their Math and Literacy in the morning. If they had the full day off, they would miss it altogether.”
In high school, it will be done a little bit differently. Ingersoll notes, the will do a five period cycle in the morning as opposed to the full day, “When they had full PD days, they may have missed several days of one subject, but this way, they won’t miss as much.”
Ingersoll says the Francophone South School District has been doing it this way for almost ten years, and it appears to work very well.
The PD days can be found spread out throughout the year between September and May.
