Anglophone East District Education Council To Make Recommendations Next Week On Schools Closures

Recommendations will be made next week by the Anglophone East District Education Council as to whether or not they feel Dorchester Consolidated School should close.

Parents, students and other residents expressed this week how a closure would affect their community.

DEC Chair Tamara Nichol says they’ll be taking everything that was said into consideration, before making their recommendations on April 21st.

Nichol says the decision is not an easy one. She understands the impact it will have on the community if the school does close, but the unfortunate thing is, there is a financial side to this as well, and it has to be taken into consideration.

Once the recommendations are made by the Council, a letter is forwarded to the Education Minister and he will have the final decision.

As for Riverside Consolidated, they will have to wait until April 28th for recommendations.
