It has almost been a year since a three bag waste and recycling program went into effect in Greater Moncton.
Spokesperson for Southeast Eco 360 Alise Hamel says it has been well worth it, “We have seen great results and great participation from the public. We are recycling 35 per cent more per blue bag that we receive. Part of the reason for this is because, a lot of the non recyclables are sent directly to the land fill in the clear bags, so they don’t contaminate the recyclables in the blue bags. We have actually achieved last year’s results in half the time. The equivalent of 2016’s revenue in recycling, we achieved it by June of 2017.”
Last year, residents in Greater Moncton began using a blue, green and a clear bag when disposing of garbage, organic waste or recyclables.
