New Bruswickers Should Carry Mask At All Times, Premier Says

This weekend, we saw an increase in COVID-19 cases in the Campbellton region, particularly at a long-term care facility.

Premier Blaine Higgs says while this is upsetting news, he’s pleased with the public health’s quick actions.

“The team at Campbellton Regional Laboratory, led Dr. Yves Gaudreau has been rapidly testing and coordinating the delivery of an unprecedented amount of samples. They’re working closely with the lab team at the Georges-L.-Dumont in Moncton, which is led by medical microbiologist Dr. Louise Thibault,” he says.

More than 13,00 people were tested Saturday, the highest processed in a single day since the start of the pandemic.

Higgs says the outbreak doesn’t just affect people who live in and around Campbellton, this impacts all New Brunswickers.

He says we must continue taking all the precautions to prevent the spread of the virus and that will continue to be the case until a vaccine is widely available.

Higgs added that everyone should be carrying around a face mask, for instances where physical distancing is not possible.

“That’s an important habit for everyone to start adopting. Whenever you leave the house, you bring your keys, you bring your phone and you bring your wallet. Now it’s time to start bringing your mask. Just grab it when you walk out the door,” he says.

Higgs also thanked all other healthcare professionals and frontline workers who are continuing to work during this outbreak.

He says they are continuing to ensure workers have all the necessary protection and protocols in place.
