Air Canada is suspending service on 30 domestic routes as it struggles with the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The move impacts Halifax flights to Saint John, Moncton and Charlottetown, Fredericton flights to Halifax and Ottawa, and the Moncton-to-Ottawa route.
Air Canada is also closing stations at eight regional airports across the country, including in Bathurst.
The company says the move is being made as a result of continuing weak demand for both business and leisure travel due to COVD-19 as well as travel restrictions and border closures.
It says there are diminishing prospects for a near-to-mid-term recovery and they expect the industry’s recovery to take a minimum of three years.
Officials say they will be looking at changes to schedules and further service suspensions over the coming weeks.
Air Canada reported a net loss of $1.05 billion in the first quarter of 2020.
