A Moncton resident believes more dialogue is needed between the public and the city over mobility and transportation issues.
In a presentation to city council on Monday, Mark LeBlanc showed photos he took this winter with snow and ice causing major problems for individuals.
“A physically handicapped man at the corner of Mountain Road and Jones Street was trying to navigate a big puddle in front of the sidewalk – in a bank of ice – to get off of Jones Street back up onto Mountain Road.”
LeBlanc also noted how many cyclists have been telling him how difficult it can be to navigate the area even with bike lanes.
“(There’s) Poor access to the new bridge going across to Riverview, construction signs are in the bike lanes – they just stay there – and there’s debris in the bike lanes as well.”
LeBlanc would like to see quality control factored in to the city’s active transportation plan along with an ongoing forum to address issues which may arise.
City manager Marc Landry noted how the presentation was timely since the city’s active transportation master plan will be ready in May and a snow management report will be released during the second quarter of this year.
