Community Officers To Patrol Moncton

The city of Moncton is set to add eight community officers to increase safety on the streets.

The Team is expected to start in April, working for 20 hours a day seven days a week.

Officers will not be responsible for enforcing law, instead they will work to create an understanding of expected behaviours.

Those hired will be required to have specialized training, such as standard first aid and CPR, security training and non-violent crisis intervention

“As we have become New Brunswick’s largest city, the needs of our downtown neighbourhood in particular have evolved,” highlighted Mayor Dawn Arnold. “By modernizing our approach to by-law enforcement, these new community officers will become a recognizable and reliable resource for residents and business owners.”

The city will recruit members through a contract with the Corps of commissionaires NB & PEI division.
