Strategic Investments Sought In N.B. Budget – Greater Moncton Chamber

The next provincial budget should focus on economic recovery amid the COVID-19 pandemic and not deficit or debt reduction according to the Chamber of Commerce for Greater Moncton.

CEO John Wishart wants to see some strategic investments in the economy.

“We think there could be some support programs to help businesses go more digital, e-commerce enable their web presence. We also think there could be some support for ‘buy local’ campaigns.”

Wishart would like to see some investments in broadband technology around the province so that we are more equipped for a digital economy.

He also cites how large the public service is in New Brunswick.

“We need to look at the size of government as well. Our public sector is one of the largest per capita in Canada. Can we continue to afford that at a time when our revenues are falling?”

Finance minister Ernie Steeves will likely deliver the budget in March.

The provincial government is seeking public feedback until February 11.
