The City of Dieppe granted 681 building and development permits in 2020 despite the COVID-19 pandemic. The total value of the permits eclipsed $91 million, falling just 5% shy of the city record set in 2019.
Residential projects accounted for 597 of the permits at a value of over $81 million. The creation of 621 new housing units will nearly double the amount from the year prior.
“The increase shows that Dieppe is a place where people want to set down roots. We are proud to be a community where it’s great to live, work and raise a family,” said Mayor Yvon Lapierre.
The remaining 84 permits authorized commercial, industrial and institutional projects, representing investments of $8.6 million.
The City of Moncton had an equally impressive year in relation to expansion. Moncton announced earlier this month that it ended 2020 with $270.8-million in building permits.
