A 61-year-old man from Bronson Settlement is facing several new charges, including attempted murder of police officers, after an incident in the community near Chipman.
Mounties say they received a report of an armed person uttering threats at a home on Main Street in Chipman on Nov. 22, but the suspect left before officers arrived.
Police then went to a home on Bronson Settlement Road in Bronson Settlement, where they say a firearm was fired toward officers from inside.
Keith Day was arrested and charged with discharging a firearm with intent. Eight new charges were laid against him in Fredericton provincial court on Monday, according to police:
- Attempted murder with a firearm of police officers
- Discharging a firearm with intent at police officers
- Pointing a firearm at police officers
- Using a firearm in the commission of an offence
- Pointing a firearm
- Possession of a firearm for a dangerous purpose
- Possession of a firearm without a license
- Uttering threats
Day was also charged with four offences in relation to a separate incident which took place in November of 2019.
He remains in custody and is scheduled to return to court on Jan. 8, 2021.
