Like many charitable organizations, the United Way of Greater Moncton has been feeling the effects of the pandemic.
CEO Debbie McInnis expects their annual fundraising campaign will see a drop of between $400,000 and $500,000.
This year’s goal of $2,000,000 was set back in September.
Through their Inspiration Cafe located in the Community Peace Centre, McInnis says some of their programs are still going strong.
“We run a seniors pre-made meal delivery program Mondays and Thursdays with about 700 meals a week. And we provide supper on Saturday and Sunday nights out of the cafe to our homeless and vulnerable – and quite frankly food-insecure people. We are seeing more mothers and children coming to the cafe,” she recently told Moncton City Council.
McInnis adds United Way doesn’t fund these programs directly but she has found other sources of funding to keep them running.
Following one of the busiest shopping weekends of the year which includes Black Friday and Cyber Monday, McInnis urges everyone to support Giving Tuesday on December 1.
She adds there are many community organizations in need right now and if you can’t provide financial support, you can share another valuable resource – your time.
