Riverview Lights and Nativity Display Vandalized

Grinches vandalized a nativity scene and the lights along the riverfront over the weekend.

Vandals struck just days after the Town of Riverview lit up to help boost the festive spirit.

Riverview Mayor Ann Seamans says the lights were turned on Thursday night and just two days later, there was damage to the nativity scene and other parts of the display.

“Baby Jesus and the donkey both went missing. Also, lights were damaged and extension cords stolen. It is so discouraging,” Seamans says.

She says this is a time we need as much positive as possible in our lives, “To have it vandalized and to take this joy away from people is very disappointing.”

She is asking residents to report any suspicious activity so they will be able to have displays like this for the future.

“That is something we have to look at as a town. If all of the budget for this going to go into repairing the vandalism that is done, this could ruin it for everyone in the Town,” Seamans says.

Baby Jesus was found dumped in a park, and the donkey has also now been located.

The RCMP were notified, and they are investigating.
