Groups Get Creative For Thirty Day Of Community Caring Campaign

COVID-19 has forced Food Depot Alimentaire to come up with new ways to hold their 30 Days of Community caring campaign.

In the past, community groups and local businesses have come together to collect financial and food donations.

Executive Director Chantal Senecal says the campaign helps to support families through the winter months and beyond, “Many, many people have reached out to us saying they are still interested in doing something. We actually came out with a ‘How to do a food drive during a pandemic’ document, so that goes out to all of our businesses and the general public or other organization who want to do a food drive.”

The campaign kicks off on November 21st and run until December 24th.

“Everybody is getting very creative on what they can do and our supporters are figuring out ways to continue to do food drives and different fundraisers,” Senecal says.

Here is a list of events planned.
1. Tim Horton’s Food Drive – November 21st 9am-3pm
2. Sue Stultz Turkey Drive- Dec 2,3,4
3. Fill the Bus – Virtual Giving Campaign Dec 1st -18th
4. Community Village Choir – Dec 5th
5. Wild Lights food drive at the Zoo- Dec 4,5,6

7. Sobeys Campaign – TBA

Senecal says, “It’s not ideal, but we’re just, we’re just happy we can still continue to provide something for our families at Christmas time. I’m pretty confident it will still be successful.”

In Moncton alone an average of 1100 families rely on support through the Peter McKee Community Food Centre.
