Terry Fox joins seven others in being shortlisted for the next $5 bank note according the Bank Of Canada. More than 600 of public nominees met the qualifying criteria for selection and deliberation by an independent Advisory Council. The qualifying criteria is:
-They are a Canadian by birth or naturalization who has demonstrated outstanding leadership, achievement, or distinction in any field, benefiting the people of Canada, or in the service of Canada.
-They have been deceased for at least 25 years (before March 11, 1995).
-They are not a fictional character.
Other notable nominees include:
Onondeyoh – a Mohawk chief, First World War veteran, and political and social activist,
Lotta Hitschmanova – one of Canada’s earliest grassroots humanitarians.
Robertine Barry – the first female French-Canadian journalist
Binaaswi – a veteran of the First World War, was the most highly-decorated Indigenous soldier in Canadian history
