Crossroads Needs Your Vote For $100,000 Donation

A local charity is in the running to receive a large financial boost, but they need the community’s help to vote them into the top three.

Crossroads for Women is one of the finalists in a Canada-wide contest to receive a 100-thousand dollar donation from iA Financial Group.

Executive Director Chantal Poirier says the pandemic has had a major impact on their ability to raise funds since they weren’t able to have some of their annual events.

She says the centre runs 60 per cent off donations, local events and fundraisers and 40 per cent off government funding.

Poirier says last year, 91 women were turned away due to the lack of space and that the funds would help them address the issue.

She says the facility is undergoing renovations in order to accommodate 14 more individuals.

They are expanding their current facility by updating the food storage system and adding additional beds.

“The cost of building materials has largely increased, even the cost of supplies to renovate and create the bedroom space is quite high and then we still need to furnish the bedroom,” says Poirier.

A donation of $100,000 will be made to the 3 charities that receive the most votes and the remaining seven charities will each receive $10,000.

Contest results will be announced on December 10th.
