Full Moon For Halloween

If you’re superstitious, you might consider staying indoors for Halloween, because of the full moon.

Backyard Astronomer Gary Boyle says it will be a blue moon for Halloween, which happens when we have two full moons in one month.

“On October 1st, we had the full Harvest Moon and since we have full moons come up around every 29.5 days, the one coming up on Halloween will be the 31st. The last time we had a full moon on Halloween was in 1944, and the next will occur in 2039,” Boyle says.

Boyle says when you look at the full moon on Halloween night, you may also notice an orange colour star to the right of it, which is Mars, “That was closest to the Earth a few weeks ago, but over the next few months, Mars is getting dimmer and dimmer as the months go by.”

He adds, the next time we will see two full moons in the same month will be in August 2023.
