The Executive Director for Moncton’s Habitat for Humanity ReStore says they’ve seen a major boost since reopening in May during the pandemic.
Chantal Landry says they were hit hard during the closure in March and April, but they have definitely bounced back.
“it’s booming. We have never had so many donations. Our sales are through the roof, or have been for the last few months. I think people are in the mood to get rid of their stuff and decluttering and re-evaluating what they need and what they want. So we’re getting a lot of donations.”
Landry says COVID-19 has added an extra stress on staff and volunteers, because of the new rules, “It has been tough on staff and volunteers for sure. Then volunteers question whether they should go in or not. We do have a lot of rules, but thankfully the public has been been, and donors have been very patient.”
With additional donations, they need extra help, to clean and process, and it has been overwhelming.
“We got hit really hard with COVID, so we are really grateful because the success of our store is part of the success of our organization. People kept donating during COVID, so we had to keep track of that, but once everything opened up again, we’ve been very lucky that people have been so generous,” Landry says.
