No Visitors Allowed At Moncton Hospitals

Amid a COVID-19 outbreak in Moncton, the Georges-Dumont Hospital is reducing services and is no longer allowing visitors.

Vitalite Health Network says the hospital is moving to a higher alert level given the current situation at Manoir Notre-Dame.

Elective surgeries and some ambulatory services are being temporarily reduced and patients will be notified.

According to the President and CEO, these measures must be applied without delay to be able to react quickly.

“We must have enough flexibility to be ready to face anything that may arise in a context where there is an outbreak of COVID-19 in Moncton,” said Gilles Lanteigne.

While visits are being suspended, some exceptions are in place:

  • Patients in Obstetrics, Pediatrics and the Palliative Care units will be permitted to designate one visitor
  • Patients receiving medical assistance in dying, the presence of two designated visitors is allowed (one at a time), except in exceptional cases where one of the visitors would require assistance to go to the patient’s bedside.

Vitalite apologizes for any inconvenience these temporary interruptions may cause and would like to thank the public for understanding.

Horizon Health has also placed visitor restrictions at the Moncton Hospital amid the COVID-19 outbreak in the region.

There are a few exceptions:

ONE healthy designated visitor is permitted in the following areas:

  • Intensive Care, Critical Care and Neonatal Intensive Care
  • Obstetrics and Pediatrics

TWO healthy designated visitors are permitted in Palliative Care. NOTE: The two designated visitors cannot attend at the same time.

ONE healthy individual is allowed to pick up discharged patients.

For Emergency Departments:

  • ONE support person ONLY for patients requiring assistance.
  • Only ONE person per pediatric patient is allowed. (Parent or caregiver only.)

For Outpatient Departments:

  • ONE support person ONLY for patients requiring assistance.
