Preparations are underway to launch Moncton Headstart’s annual Coats for Kids campaign.
Due to COVID-19, the program will run over five days instead of just one day this year.
Executive Director Mary O’Donnell says they’ll need more than just donations of outdoor winter clothing, “We are going to need volunteers. The staff are going to be putting in a lot more hours. The focus is on safety, and the well being of everybody, whether it is the individuals who are coming to pick out the coats, the volunteers as well as the staff.”
O’Donnell adds donations of outdoor winter clothing, including snow pants, jackets and boots, are being accepted now, “Gently used jackets are very valuable in terms of recycling them, and we appreciate that very much.”
Donations of new or gently used winter outerwear can be dropped off at any of the following Greater Moncton Jean Coutu locations, 1789 Mountain Rd, 404 St. George, 438 Coverdale Rd and 123 Champlain St as well as at the Moncton Headstart office, 1111 Mountain Rd.
Development Officer Monica Hudson says those in need can apply for the program, “This year there will be an online application that the community can access. That will be going live on the Moncton Headstart website on Monday, October 12th.”
Pick up of the outdoor wear will be done by appointment only from Tuesday, November 3 to Saturday, November 7.
Coats for Kids helped over 700 young people last year.
