Statistics Canada says the consumer price index rose by 0.1 per cent year-over-year in August.
The national agency says that matched the 0.1 per cent year-over-year increase we saw in July.
Gas prices were down by 11.1 per cent in August following a 14.9 per cent drop in July.
But prices were up in several other categories including personal care services, jewellery, passenger vehicles and beef.
Prices rose in five provinces on a year-over-year basis in August.
They accelerated the most in Prince Edward Island, where consumers paid more for cigarettes year-over-year following a provincial cigarette tax increase instated in mid-July.
