2nd Moncton Myeloma March Happening On Saturday

The second annual Moncton Myeloma March is being held at Mapleton Park on Saturday.

Event organizer Shawn Crossman was diagnosed with blood cancer in 2018 and held the first event last year to raise awareness.

Despite having to adapt the event to fit public health guidelines, Crossman was adamant about holding an in-person event.

“I think it’s very important for people to come together and support each other and to show each other that they have support in this very challenging time because cancer treatment and cancer doesn’t take a break because of COVID or any other virus,” he says.

Anyone looking to donate to the cause can do so on-site or online.

“Any amount would be a true help because this year we have an agreement with Myeloma Canada to invest 50 per cent of our funds in to the Myeloma Research Priority Setting Partnership Initiative, the first of its kind, and that will be through the Horizon Health Network,” he says.

Crossman says the other portion of the funds will be used for local support initiatives and developing a cure.

This year, the Saint John team is travelling to Moncton to partake in our walk, with a goal of raising $30,000.

“I think that’s a great show of leadership, two communities coming together to support one big cancer cause,” says Crossman.

Participants will meet at the Rotary Pavilion at 1pm for registration and to hear the total amount raised before walking through the park’s trail system.
