Anglophone East Superintendent Asks For Patience As New School Year Begins

Many students across the province are returning to class today, after five months.

Schools closed suddenly in March due to COVID-19.

Thousands of students have opted out of taking the bus to school this year, due to the pandemic and many will be driven by their parents.

Superintendent for Anglophone East School District Gregg Ingersoll says drivers can expect it to be a lot busier around the schools, “We are going to have more traffic at the schools at the beginning and ending of the day. We are asking parents to have patience, and help us get through that until things settle down.”

Most students are on a staggered entry this week in most grade levels, ” I can’t say that every student is doing that, but it would have been communicated to the parents, which students are coming in on which days,” Ingersoll says.

He adds this will give staff the opportunity to go over new procedures, “Just to give the schools a smaller group of students to walk through the operational planning in the school and moving them around safely, getting used to the directional arrows, what it will be like on the playgrounds, and what it will look like to get off the bus.”

Operational plans have been created by each school in the province, and can be found posted to their websites.
