Update on Moncton’s 2020 Financial Projections

Moncton council got an update on the city’s financial situation.

The city’s finance manager, Jacques Doucet says as of June their expenses were about 215 thousand better than budget.

“We’re really managing our expenses very diligently so we are looking at, over time, special projects, professional services and things like that to make sure that the expenditures we do make are worth it, considering what we’re expected to face as a deficit,” he says.

On the revenue side, Doucet says they’re also close to where they projected to be, at 2.1 million worse than budget.

Among the things which affected revenue include the a decreased ridership on Codiac Transpo and event cancellations like trade shows.

The city is expected to face a year-end deficit between 2.2 and 2.5 million dollars.
