Indigenous peoples and leadership should be credited for limiting the spread of COVID-19.
That’s according to Indigenous Services Minister Marc Miller.
Miller said they are concerned though about the ongoing pandemic.
“We know with historic pandemics that Indigenous peoples and I generalize across the world, second waves have hit much more severely than first waves. The pale comparison that we have is H1N1,” Miller said.
Miller said there is no magic about COVID-19 going away until such time we find an effective vaccine and a penetration level of the vaccine that provides people with a level of immunity.
“It hasn’t disappeared so that vigilance that we reinforce and the funds we attribute to make sure communities have the resources they need are very very much important,” Miller said.
Miller has announced another $305 million to help Indigenous organizations and First Nations deal with COVID-19.
