Moncton Fire Battles Large Blaze On Clarendon Drive

Fire has destroyed a semi-detached home in the city’s Northwest end.

Moncton Fire Platoon Chief Brian McDonald says the first truck arrived on Clarendon Drive just after 2am this morning.

Crews found flames shooting from the roof and from the front door.

He says it appears the fire started on a deck at the back of the house, but spread very quickly.

McDonald says the two families just narrowly escaped with just the clothes on their back.

He adds that the smoke detectors sounded just after the families got out.

The Canadian Red Cross is assisting six people, including two children.

Fire investigators are on scene trying to determine a cause.

McDonald says with very dry conditions right now, homeowners need to be extremely careful when cooking on their deck and make sure you are disposing of smoking materials properly.
