Running To Stay Fit During COVID-19 Pandemic

While other sports are struggling during COVID-19, the pandemic has had a positive impact for running, that according to the Founder of the Running Room.

John Stanton says people have turned to running because it can be done independently and it is a great way to stay fit, “The Health Ministers across the country, whether it is provincial or federal are recommending people exercise. So what we’ve seen is actually a resurgence of people running.”

Stanton says this is a great opportunity for people to get back to the basics of walking and running, if they haven’t done it in awhile.

“I think people are respecting the new rules that Health Canada has set for us, and respecting the distance, but they realise that keeping your Cardiovascular system strong is good for it,” Stanton says.

For those who used to run in groups, Stanton says many of them are taking to social media to support each other online instead.

“They’re keeping themselves fit, walking and running is an excellent opportunity. It is good for stress relief, it’s good for your mental and physical health,” Stanton says.
