Residents Asked To Reduce Non-Essential Water Consumption

Residents in Riverview and Moncton are asked to be mindful of their water consumption.

A release from the town of Riverview states that water consumption is reaching non-sustainable levels.

“The town usually consumes around 6,200 cubic metres of water per day, but at the moment that number has risen significantly to 12,000 cubic metres per day,” says the town’ director of engineering and public works, Michel Ouellet.

People are urged to take extra steps to maintain a safe and reliable water supply, and the fire department is able to respond to calls.

Spokesperson for the city of Moncton Isabelle LeBlanc says the lack of snow over the winter, lack of rain in the spring and with people being at home during the pandemic, water levels are much lower that what they would normally see at this time of year.

She says they’ll be communicating more details for the Moncton region in the coming days.

Residents should avoid consuming water for non-essential use such as watering lawns and washing vehicles.

The city of Dieppe says it’s not asking residents to reduce water consumption at the moment.
