The Three Fathers Memorial Run is held annually in honour of the three RCMP officers who were shot and killed in Moncton 6 years ago.
Board director Nadine Larche says this year, due to COVID-19, they are asking participants to walk independently.
“We want people to get out on Fathers’ Day, together or alone, and go for a walk or run, any distance you choose, to get out there and get together to honour Doug, Dave and Fabrice,” she says.
Those who take part are encouraged to wear t-shirts from past events and share a photo to the event’s Facebook page for a chance to win a prize.
Larche says the pandemic also had an impact on the scholarships being awarded to local high school students.
In previous years, the Three Father Memorial scholarship was a total of 18 thousand dollars and one thousand dollars was awarded to 3 students at each of the 6 local high schools.
“In the beginning of our decision to not do an in person run, the board had agreed that we would be giving out 6 thousand dollars but thank to donations from some people and some businesses we are able to give away 9 thousand dollars this year, so 500 dollars for each of the 18 students,” she says.
Prize-winners as well as scholarship recipients will be posted online.
