Riverview Sets New Date For Plastic Bag Ban

The town of Riverview is moving forward with its plan for reducing single-use plastic bags.

A by-law that prohibits stores from providing plastic checkout bags to customers was passed during Monday’s meeting.

Councillor Tammy Rampersaud says the by-law was put on hold during the pandemic, as stores were not accepting reusable bags.

“I know that most of the stores now are taking reusable bags back again when there was a pause in that for a little bit,” she says.

The by-law stated a ban would be effective July 1st but was postponed to October first, due to current circumstances.

“Hopefully we get to roll this out without a hiccup and we all do better for the environment,” Rampersaud says.

This will follow suit with the cities of Moncton and Dieppe.
