Power restoration efforts continue in Fredericton, following a severe storm on Friday.
Thousands of residents remain without power as a result of the storm, which brought severe rain, thunder and lightning, and strong winds gusting up to 90 km/h.
The Canadian Red Cross says it is assisting several tenants of a George Street apartment building after a fire caused by the storm. The fire began after strong winds pushed a tree into nearby power lines.
A statement from the Red Cross said at least a half-dozen tenants were displaced, and are staying with friends and relatives.
On the south side of the city, house damage was reported in the Hanwell & Pine Grove Mini-Home community.
No injuries were reported in the fire or as a result of the mobile home damage.
Many poles and lines have been damaged due to last night’s strong wind in the Fredericton area. We ask that any customers who see downed trees or other issues with the lines/poles, please give us a call at our toll free number, 1-800-663-6272. pic.twitter.com/WQcVOiw7Q5
