Non-Profit And Charity Organizations Struggle As Major Fundraisers Postponed Or Cancelled

COVID-19 has forced several non-profit and charity organizations to postpone or cancel fundraisers.

Executive Director of the Riverview Boys and Girls Club Lynda Carey says that includes The Rotary Club’s Moncton Ribfest. It has been postponed until at least September, and proceeds support numerous organizations.

“That money all gets filtered down to the non-profits that it supports which is around ten different organizations. Money that we would normally be able to rely on from them, we probably won’t get going into 2021. So this is going to affect us, all the way until probably this time next year.”

Carey says postponements and cancellations of major fundraisers, means a loss of thousands of dollars.

“The non-profits sectors, the registered charities in Greater Moncton area have been going strong and staying busy. All of us are now back to the point, things are starting an people are coming back to work, we’re all starting to wonder, how are some of us going to survive.”

Carey says one way the public has been helpful. They’ve been very generous by dropping off cans and bottles, “The contributions that people have done for us, by just dropping off bags of recyclables. We have had to empty the bins, two and three times a day, because people just keep filling them up.”
