The Crown will not be appealing the acquittal of Maurice Johnson following his trial on a hit and run charge in the death of Brady Francis.
Director of Public Prosecutions Pierre Roussel says while the acquittal has raised comments about how there is no justice for Aboriginal people, he says their review found no indication that racial bias played any role in the case.
Brady Francis, 22, of Elsipogtog First Nation was struck and killed by a vehicle in February 2018 in Saint-Charles.
Maurice Johnson, 57, of Saint-Charles was subsequently charged in the hit and run.
On April 28, the trial judge concluded that the Crown did not prove its case beyond a reasonable doubt and Johnson was found not guilty and he was acquitted.
