Dry Conditions Fueling Grass And Forest Fires In NB

A number of people enjoying a walk through Irishtown Park were forced out last night due to a forest fire.

They were evacuated from the area at around 6 o’clock.

Moncton Fire Platoon Chief Charlie Melanson says it was reported as a grass fire, but it quickly extended into the trees.

It took around three hours to extinguish..

Around 20 firefighters battles the flames, with crews from both Moncton and Dieppe on scene.

This isn’t the only grass or forest fire that has kept firefighters busy over the last few days.

Two forest fires are still being fought in the Miramichi region. One has been burning since Sunday.

New Brunswick remains under a burn ban due to dry conditions.

They aren’t expected to improve with the hot and humid forecast expected over the next few days.

Environment Canada is forecasting highs of up to 32 degrees for the Moncton region today through Thursday.

The humidex could make things feel as high as 34 degrees.
