Improvements Planned For Parlee Beach Road

The provincial government is making improvements for patrons using Parlee Beach.

Minister of Tourism, Heritage and Culture Bruce Fitch says they’ll begin upgrades next month on the entrance to the popular gathering spot.

” The project includes a complete rebuild and resurfacing, plus a new multi-use trail that will span the 1.8 kilometres from the entrance to the parking lot. The wide trail next to it will allow for pedestrians and cyclists. This is a request that has been on the books for awhile.”

Work is expected to begin June 1st and will continue for three weeks, depending on weather.

Gould Beach Road will be used as a detour to allow access to the park.

Parlee Beach Provincial Park is scheduled to open on May 22. Due to the ongoing pandemic, the park will operate with reduced services in accordance with Public Health guidelines. This will require all patrons to practice physical distancing and follow any restrictions that may be in place.

Fitch says, “On the days in the past, when there has been 10, 000 people there. I guess one of the challenges, of not so many people being allowed into the province, is that it may be that the social distancing may be easier to achieve.”

There have been concerns about water quality at Parlee Beach in the past. But Fitch says last year the popular summer destination received the Blue Flag designation for water quality, and there will be continued water testing going on again this year.
