Travel Restrictions For Temporary Foreign Workers

Temporary foreign workers will be restricted from entering the province amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Premier Blaine Higgs announced the changes to the mandatory order under the state of emergency.

He says with so many serious outbreaks of COVID-19 in surrounding regions, New Brunswick’s borders must remain closed for now.

“Under normal circumstances, we welcome foreign temporary workers as they play an important role in New Brunswick’s continued economic growth,” said Higgs. “But right now, the risk of allowing more people to enter the province is simply too great.”

Higgs says this restriction won’t affect the 1500 temporary foreign workers in the province at the moment.

However, he says many of them have been left unemployed.

Higgs says he’s asked the federal government for help with securing employment for them in either the agriculture or seafood industry.
