Town Of Riverview To Face Financial Challenges Due TO COVID-19

The effects of COVID-19 on the Town of Riverview were discussed during a virtual meeting by Councillors this week.

Chief Administrative Officer Colin Smith says they know the revenues are down, but there is still a lot of uncertainty, “If things prolong with not running summer programs and we don’t have our spring programs, Aquatics are not open, we know it is going to have a sizeable impact on the revenue side for the programming that we run.”

Smith says this does place a lot of financial challenges on the Town for this year.

“While we know the revenues are down, we know it is expected on us to manage the costs and we will be trying to do that. We’re trying to figure out the discretionary costs we can delay or defer, but one of the unknowns for us is what are the additional costs we are going to experience over the next couple of months. We will have updates as this progresses, but there are just challenges because of the unknowns in front of us.”

The Town of Riverview continues to work with all rate payers experiencing hardship during COVID-19.

They are suspending collections and late fees for past due water and sewer accounts, until July 2020.
