UPDATE: Firefighters Battle Blaze At Cap-Pelé Sawmill

The Cap-Pelé sawmill has been destroyed by fire.

Fire Chief Ronald Cormier says they received reports of flames and smoke coming from the building at around 8am this morning.

When they arrived on scene, fire had already consumed part of the building, and it spread from there.

Around 50 firefighters from several departments including Cap-Pelé, Haute Aboujagne and Dieppe battled the blaze and assisted with a water truck.

They remain on scene putting out hot spots.

Cormier expects they’ll be on scene for several more hours.

He says the fire does not appear to be suspicious, but no cause has been determined yet.

The sawmill was operational at the time, and there were workers on site, but no one was hurt.
