Nature Conservancy Closes Properties, Trails

The Nature Conservancy of Canada has closed its conservation properties and trails until further notice due to the pandemic.

That includes the Black Beach and Five Fathom trails at the Musquash Estuary Nature Reserve near Saint John, the Lincoln Wetland Trail near Fredericton, and parking, facilities and beach access at the Johnson’s Mills Shorebird Interpretive Centre near Sackville.

“We urge residents to follow public health advisories and stay at home and respect physical distancing guidelines at all times,” said John Lounds, president and CEO, in a statement. “We sincerely hope that by taking these steps now, everyone can get back to enjoying these conservation areas and trails as soon as possible.”

John Foley, Atlantic regional vice-president, said they know nature is good for our well-being, especially in stressful times.

“But this closure is necessary, as together we protect our communities and do our part to ‘flatten the curve,'” said Lounds.

Advisories have been placed on the organization’s website and social media channels.
