The pandemic is having a serious impact on CARMA cat rescue’s Moncton chapter.
Spokesperson Amber MacDonald says they’ve had to put their adoption program on hold and that it’s also affected their TNR program.
“So TNR is for trap, neuter, return and normally we trap the cats, get them spayed or neuter return them back to a caregiver. But spay and neutering is considered non-essential so we can’t access that service right now,” MacDonald says.
She says veterinarians are still available for any medical emergencies, however this creates an issue with a large number of litters.
MacDonald says social-distancing measures have also forced them to adapt to the way they raise funds.
Their spring and summer fundraisers have been put on hold and many of their donors are out of work and can’t contribute.
MacDonald says they are looking at other options including a virtual auction and selling gift cards online.
