The Associate Director for Youth Impact says COVID-19 has forced them to learn to do things differently, especially at their drop in centre in downtown Moncton.
The organization that helps homeless youth are facing many challenges.
Tracy Cormier says their drop in centre in downtown Moncton isn’t open right now.
“We’re providing front door pick up services for youth between the ages of 16 and 24. Food, hygiene products, and other necessities. A Band-Aid, a pack of halls, feminine hygiene products, shampoo, soap, whatever they need.”
Cormier says they are running on a skeleton crew, and their outreach staff are working from home, “We are offering Counselling over the phone and virtually to youth who need it.”
She says it is definitely not an easy time for the youth, “Some of them are staying in shelters, while others are couch surfing at friends homes.”
Donations are also down, because previously they would receive them dropped off at the door. They are unable to accept those now due to the pandemic.
Cormier says they are thankful though for the financial support from community partners.
“We are taking it day by day. If they have any supplies that are directly related to the spread of COVID-19. We are short on things like masks and sanitizer. We recently received a donation of disinfectant,” Cormier says.
