Irving Oil Starts Producing Hand Sanitizer

Irving Oil is well known for producing gasoline, oil and natural gas — but now it can add hand sanitizer to the list.

The company has retooled production at its Saint John, N.B., blending and packaging facility to help meet the growing demand for the disinfectant.

“Across our company, our teams are working hard to continue to respond to the essential needs of our communities during this challenging time,” said the company in a statement Tuesday.

The federal government announced Tuesday it had signed letters of intent with five companies, including Irving Oil, to help with its response to COVID-19.

“In line with Health Canada standards, Irving Hand Sanitizer is a quality, safe and effective product that we hope will help in the fight against COVID-19,” read the company’s statement.

“We are appreciative of the efforts of our Irving Oil team in making this opportunity possible and also of the federal government, which assisted in this endeavor, including expediting the Health Canada approval process. Together, we are making a difference in our communities.”

Irving Oil did not respond to our multiple requests for an interview on the venture.
