Moncton Making Preparations Amid Pandemic

The City of Moncton is making preparations given the COVID-19 pandemic.

The emergency operations centre is currently operating at Level 1.

Moncton Fire Chief Conrad Landry is the local coordinator of emergency measures.

“Right now we’re still monitoring and doing some preventative measures. The fire department is also refreshing everybody to properly use our policies and procedures.”

Chief Landry says Moncton is working in tandem with Dieppe and Riverview along with other municipalities across the country.

He says officials will be meeting to monitor a situation which is changing in a matter of hours.

Here are some of the other steps the City of Moncton has been taking:

  • Municipal facilities have already taken measures to reduce the risk of contamination. Some of the examples include: added hand sanitizers, increased inspection of soap and sanitizer dispensers, increased frequency of cleaning in high-traffic areas, ensuring that the PNB-produced hand washing posters are visible throughout the facilities, etc.
  • The City has a Pandemic Plan which is currently being used to monitor and take necessary action if needed.
  • Possible measures could be put in place for Public Council Meetings with more details in the coming days.
  • For events occurring in the City, discussions with promoters and organizers are underway regarding their events.
