UPDATE: First Ever Myeloma Cancer Support Group For Moncton

A new support group is being created for anyone who has been diagnosed with Myeloma cancer.

Patients and their caregivers will meet and hear the latest in research and other developments from experts.

Moncton City Councillor Shawn Crossman was diagnosed in 2018.

“It’s amazing the number of people who Myeloma cancer or some form of it. I would say, I have met in Moncton, close to 25 people so far, but I do know that list is probably close to 100.”

Crossman says word cancer can be scary, when a diagnosis is received, “I want people not to be afraid. For me, it is continuing to live a healthy lifestyle, but also a certain level of lifestyle. That is what I wasn’t to share with others.”create this group, because he wants people not to be afraid.

This support group will provide information on the latest research and developments. Experts will also provide tips on how to manage symptoms.

Crossman says, “Best of all you’ll have the opportunity to meet and exchange stories with others. I want to continue to improve my quality of life and I want to share that with others. I want others to understand they can still get up in the morning and do what they want to do, and get past that hurdle of that one word, cancer.”

A meet and greet for the support group will be held on March 14th at the Crossman Community Centre.

It runs from 1pm to 3:30pm.

Speakers include Michelle Oana from Myeloma Canada, and Dr. Nizar Abdel Samad, who is a Hematologist with Horizon Health Network.
