The Moncton Maple Sugar Camp Is Up And Running

Maple season is just around the corner.

The Moncton Maple Sugar Camp has started collecting sap and is set to open over the coming days.

Moncton is the only municipality in Canada to own and operate their own sugar bush, in Turtle Creek.

Natural Resource Program coordinator Heather Fraser says have a few new things to highlight the Moncton Maple Sugar Camp’s 20th anniversary .

“We’ve added some new information to our program and we’ll have a couple more open houses and special event that will happen on the weekend during maple season,” she says.

Fraser says they offer free tours to educate residents on the process and hopefully encourage them to buy the product locally, year-round.

“It starts at the tree, so you learn about the history of maple, you taste sap coming out of the tree and we talk about the science, the technology, the nutritional benefits of maple and how to cook with maple,” she says.

Keep an eye on the City of Moncton website over the next few days for the camp’s official opening.
